Information

Beaty’s book Listen In offers a compelling insight into the early history of radio, focusing on the profound impact it had on domestic life in Britain. In 1922 only 150,000 were listening, but by 1939 that number had exploded to 34 million. It was one of the most rapid technological and social shifts in modern history, on a par with the internet revolution of the 21st century. Joining Beaty on stage is legendary presenter, Jim Naughtie, voted radio’s "best voice to wake up to" and who also wrote the foreword to the book.
